Defence and Strategic Studies
Introduction
The Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard constitute very contours of Indian Armed Forces. The various paramilitary organizations and various interservice institutions also assist the Indian Armed Forces. The broad classification of Indian Defence and Paramilitary forces is as under:-

The interdisciplinary subject of Military / Defence Studies in various colleges / universities in India related the studies or various aspects of national security such as military manpower, strategic interest, geopolitics, geography, science and technology, economics of defence, conflict management and conflict resolution, war etc.
Eligibility
All India Competitive Examinations conducted by UPSC for Army, Indian Air Force and Navy
- National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Defence Academy (NA) – For 10+2
- Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR), Musician (MUS), Sports Entry and Artificer Apprentices (AA) Tests etc. are conducted by Indian Navy – For 10+2
- Airman (X&Y Grade)- -Intermediate/10+2/Equivalent examination from Education Board listed as member by COBSE (or) Three years Diploma Course in Engineering (For Group ‘X’ Trades) from a Government recognised Polytechnic Institute (or) Two year vocational course (For Group ‘Y’ Trades) from Education Boards listed as COBSE member with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
- Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE) – For Graduates
- Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by IAFFor Graduates
